“For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.”
2 Corinthians 8.9
Christmas is all about generosity. But I am not talking about us sharing presents with each other. What I mean is that the Bible tells us Jesus was there with God in the beginning, but then chose to leave all that behind to come and live on earth and experience life as we experience it. It would be like Bill Gates, the richest man in 2016 with a net worth of around $75.0 billion giving it all up and coming to live in Oldham - one of the most deprived parts of the UK currently.
Actually its nothing like that but you get the idea.
Jesus coming down to earth as a baby being born into a poor Jewish family in a backwater town and then living his love for others is all about generosity.
And the thing about generosity is that it’s contagious. When someone is generous towards you, it often makes you want to be generous to them or others, paying it forward.
Jesus gave up everything for you - including His life, so that you may experience the abundant love of God. This Advent we hope that as you journey with us you will see something of that contagious generosity and start to share it with others, not just swapping presents but sharing entire lives with one another and sharing the story of Jesus with those you meet.
Pray that you might feel the love of Jesus and catch the contagious joy of generosity this Advent.
Find a jar or pot to collect coins in. Collect them through Advent and then give them to a charity.
